I was drowning. I was drowning and I knew it. Pain seared my body and I felt pins and needles on the backs of my arm and across my torso. I couldn't hear the roar of the water over the pounding of my heart. How am I drowning? I'm OceanClan? But I knew.... I was not as strong of a swimmer as a human. I made one final attempt to reach the surface before everything faded.
Ash awoke with sweat streaming down his face. He looked at the alarm clock. His brother wouldn't be up for a few hours. Ash went to the window. His fingers traced the familiar emblems on his necklace. He threw open the window and felt the cold breeze against his skin. Without much thought, he was a large, brown and black tabby racing into OceanClan's territory.

The sun was barely even up yet, and though he liked to think of himself as an early riser, Addermask had to admit he was tired. He'd promised to take the dawn patrol sometime last night, and though at the time it had seemed like a great idea, well... Now he was starting to regret it. It hadn't occurred to him that he'd be up late with homework, so now he was stuck wandering around in the unholy hours of the morning on little sleep and with none in the near future.
He grumbled to himself as he padded across the territory, no particular destination in mind. He might just pass out if nothing came along to break the boredom- oops. Spoke too soon. He was suddenly alert as the sound of paws reached his ears. "Who's there?" His deep voice sounded unnaturally loud in the damp air, as his ice blue eyes searched for the sound of the footsteps. Indeed, before long they settled on another tom. Oceanclan, by his scent, but... "What are you doing up so early?" It occurred to him, a bit belatedly, that he sounded hostile, but oh well. It was too darn early for niceties.

Ash, now Burning-gaze, narrowed his ashen gray eyes. [be]"I came from my house,"[/be] he said. [be]"You want me to wake up late and wait 'till this afternoon to join the Clan?"[/be] His voice was hard with sarcasm as he spoke. He knew this tom was a Half as well.

Oh. Another Half, then. It really was a bother to keep them all straight. He would have just brushed the tom off and continued on his way, had the other not decided to make some snarky comment. Wait to join them? Hmph. "I certainly wouldn't have minded." The rather cold comment was out before he could think about it much, but he made no move to apologize, simply fixing his icy gaze upon the tabby.

[be]"Someone seems a little big for his pelt,"[/be] Snarled Burning-gaze, his dark eyes flashing. He rose to his full, stunning height. His muscles rippled as he strode closer to the cat. He didn't care if he was his Clanmate or not, he was in a foul mood. He also needed to find something to forget the dream. This was the perfect solution.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, the human in him wanted to cower and flee from this massive tom. Yet, right now he was Addermask, a proud warrior- and, this morning at least, a rather grumpy one. So, not to be outdone, he puffed out his chest and stood a little straighter. The two toms seemed to be just about the same size, neither one having a clear advantage. "Hmph." He wasn't even going to grace that last remark with a reply.

[be]"To high over me to even reply?"[/be] the tabby sneered. His head lowered between his shoulder blades and his eyes narrowed to slits. He was rather irritated that he had no tail to lash.

Ice blue eyes narrowed as he glared at Burninggaze. "I'm the high and mighty one?" He asked, incredulous. "Don't make me laugh."
This couldn't possibly be good for their clan. They were supposed to be allies, for Starclan's sake! ...Not that he cared. Maybe a quick sparring match would wake him up.

[be]"You are the one who came around asking why I was up and not sleeping like a lump,"[/be] he replied. His sneer was more of a smile now. Not a kind smile, but a challenging smile. [be]"What's the prissy Siamese gonna do to me?"[/be] he laughed.

The other tom's sneer grew, until he was grinning, a clear challenge. Addermask wasn't really one to grin, but challenge, he could do. He lashed his tail, glaring at the other. "Hmph. Prissy, indeed. At least I have a tail." It was childish, yes, but he wouldn't be bothered to come up with a better insult.

Raising an eye brow, Burning-gaze snorted. [be]"What does that have to do with the price of tea in china?"[/be] He asked, wiggling his stump. He remembered that was something his dad always used to say when his brother would try to change the subject. He wouldn't have said it, though if he were dealing with a pure-blood. He turned his head on it's side and smirked at the other tom. What a childish remark, he thought. I thought we might have an insult battle as well. Apparently not.
